Your news Mount Prospect Fire Department receives $1,000 donation from ExxonMobil

The Mount Prospect Fire Department received a $1,000 donation from the ExxonMobil Corporation as part of their Good Neighbor Grant program. Kenneth Copeland, ExxonMobil’s local terminal superintendent, personally delivered the good news and the check to the Fire Department on Oct. 11.

The donation from ExxonMobil will be used to support the fire department’s public education programs including the Children’s Fire Safety Festival, Open House and Fire Prevention Week Poster/Essay Contest. Educating the public, especially children, about fire and life safety is a critical part of the fire department’s mission.

While it is the responsibility of the department to respond to fires and other emergency incidents in the community, the department hopes that it can prevent these incidents from occurring in the first place.

“I have seen firsthand the benefits of our public education programs” said Fire Chief John Malcolm. “We have had several instances where residents have followed proper procedures during a fire that they learned in our programs, ultimately leading to their safe rescue.” This donation will help the fire department continue these important programs in Mount Prospect.
