First Presbyterian donation to provide shelter for homeless

First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights has presented Pathway Development Institute (PDI) with a donation of $10,000. Sue Duchek, president of the Palatine-based not-for-profit organization, said, “PDI is honored to receive this generous gift from First Presbyterian, which will allow our organization to continue to assist families facing homelessness by helping them to transition into mainstream housing.”

PDI owns two apartment homes and rents exclusively to people who were once homeless and are currently served by Journeys: The Road Home. Journeys, also based in Palatine, provides help and counseling to people in the northwest suburbs who are homeless.

“The $10,000 will be used solely for the support of families that need help to bridge the rent gap until they are able to be self-supporting,” said church member Tom Carroll. “This donation will allow these families to stay safely together as they travel the path from homelessness to hope,” said Duchek.

The donation was one of several made by the church this year to organizations that make a difference in the local community. Each year, approximately 30 percent of the congregation's overall giving is dedicated to local, national, and international mission. First Presbyterian Church is located at 302 N. Dunton Ave.
