St. Emily cross country team has great showing at state meet

The St. Emily School Cross Country team sent both boys and girls teams to the state meet in Bloomington, IL on October 12th. This is the second year in a row that both teams have qualified and run at Maxwell Park.

The girls team placed 2nd at their sectional meet and the boys placed 1st. By qualifying as one of the top 3 teams or a top 5 individual runner not on a team, locked you a position at the state event.

At state, there were strong performances by the entire boys team with the top five runners of Paul Bergstrom, Richard Rinka, Patric Natindim, Kevin Igoe, and Alberto Kovacevic. Their scores placed them 7th in state in the class 1A division. Kenny Yi and Scott Rogowski rounded out the team with personal best performances. Christian Cruz, Stephen Chiovari and Nate Tehrani were alternates.

The girls team had one of their best showings with a 16th place finish. This was led by Loreta Dugo, Aubrey Hasley, Gabriella Piagari, Annie Gaughan and Sarah Magnoni rounding out the top five runners scoring. Mary Paczko and Lindsey Kalble completed the team and had strong performances as well. Claire Rogowski and Kara Dempsey were the team alternates.

11 of the 14 runners had personal best times at the state.

St. Emily School cross country team is comprised of 4th – 8th graders, and is coached by Judy Paczko, Lori Magnoni and Lucy Bergstrom. The program has a long tradition of building solid character, sportsmanship, teamwork and dedication. In the past 14 seasons the school has been represented at the state meet each year and 10 of the 14 years has had at least one team run at the state meet.
