Spa employee accused of prostitution in McHenry County
An undercover investigation at the Spring Spa in an unincorporated area near Crystal Lake led to prostitution charges, the McHenry County sheriff’s office said last night. Officers began investigating after receiving complaints of suspicious activity at the business on the 5600 block of Route 31. Full story.
Metra train strikes, kills pedestrian
Metra trains on the Union Pacific Northwest Line were stopped for three hours during last night’s rush hour after a train struck a pedestrian in Park Ridge. The train struck the person at about 5 p.m. between the Park Ridge and Dee Road stations. Full story.
Wheeling hearing resumes about flood-damaged homes
A Wheeling administrative hearing officer again began hearing arguments regarding the village’s efforts to force residents of the Fox Point mobile home community to make extensive repairs to their properties or face eviction after they were damaged by floods in April. An attorney representing 39 homeowners there says they are being targeted unfairly. Full story.
Naperville stabbing survivor settles with club
A Lemont man who filed suit against Naperville club Frankies Blue Room after he and his friend were stabbed there last year has settled a lawsuit alleging the establishment had overserved murder suspect Daniel Olaksa. William “Willie” Hayes and his friend Shaun Wild were both stabbed, along with a bouncer. Wild died from his injuries. Full story.
Mundelein raising money for statue
Officials in Mundelein want to honor the town’s police officers with a bronze statue, and they’ve started raising funds for the piece. The proposed artwork, called “The Protector,” calls for a life-size statue that would depict a police officer standing with two children. It’s expected to cost $70,000. Full story.
Work begins on Elgin-O’Hare western access
Gov. Pat Quinn and a bunch of other dignitaries gathered yesterday for the groundbreaking of the 12-year, $3.4 billion Elgin-O’Hare western access project. The project means lengthening and widening of the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway and construction of a new tollway on the western edge of O’Hare International Airport. Full story.
South Elgin DUI guilty plea stands
Despite the arresting officer’s policy violation, a guilty plea stemming from charges filed against a 22-year-old man in September 2012 stands. The mother of Travis Eubanks testified that officer Bryan Kmieciak gave her a pen after her son’s arrest with the name of a defense attorney on it and recommended she hire that attorney. Full story.
