Spa employee accused of prostitution in McHenry County

An undercover investigation at the Spring Spa in an unincorporated area near Crystal Lake led to prostitution charges, according to the McHenry County sheriff's office.

Officers began investigating after receiving complaints of suspicious activity at the business on the 5600 block of Route 31. Shufang Lu, 49, of Chicago, was charged with prostitution and unlawful practice of massage therapy.

“We applaud the public for their assistance and diligence in providing us with information of this suspicious activity,” said Undersheriff Andrew Zinke in a statement. “We would like to remind everyone to report any and all illegal activity to either Crime Stoppers McHenry County at (800) 762-7867 or the McHenry County sheriff's office (815) 338-2144.”

Lu's bail is $1,500. She is scheduled to appear in court again at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 14.
