Buffalo Grove residents thwart scam attempts
Four Buffalo Grove residents recently filed police reports detailing unsuccessful efforts to scam them. They all hung up on the telephone solicitations.
A Buffalo Grove woman received a phone call around 4:30 p.m. Oct. 21 from a man claiming to be with the Illinois attorney general’s office, who said there was a criminal case against her and asked for her personal information, including her Social Security number.
A Buffalo Grove man received a phone call from a man claiming to be “Officer Michael Blake” from the IRS, who told the resident he would be arrested if he didn’t pay back fines.
Another Buffalo Grove man received a call from a man who claimed to be a lieutenant with the Cook County Sheriff’s Warrant Division who said the resident had been issued a warrant for a red-light camera violation and he needed to deposit money into an account to avoid arrest.
A fourth Buffalo Grove resident received a call around 2:15 p.m. Oct. 15 from a man claiming to be with ComEd who told the man his electric service would be cut off if he didn’t pay.
