HARVEY— A funeral has been held in the Chicago area for an Eastern Michigan University football player who was fatally shot in an off-campus apartment building.
Hundreds of people filled a church in Harvey on Saturday to remember former Simeon High School receiver Demarius Reed.
WBBM radio says a 4-foot tall photo of Reed carrying a football was placed next to his casket.
Pastor Janet Goodwin described the 20-year-old Reed as “somebody special.”
Reed played in six games for Eastern Michigan this season, catching 15 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown. He was a communications major at the Ypsilanti, Mich., school.
Reed was repeatedly shot Oct. 18 in what police say may have been a robbery.
