Dining events: Nostalgia lives on at Circa 57

Circa 57 opens

The food is good, and the cars have fins — that’s part of the motto at Circa 57, a new throwback restaurant that opened last week in Arlington Heights for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Located in the former People’s Bank and Grand Station restaurant space, the restaurant comprises various rooms with food to match — like a bungalow with mom’s home cooking and dad’s backyard with grill foods. There’s even a classic diner and soda fountain area. Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Circa 57 is at 101 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights. (847) 392-1957 or facebook.com/circa57.

Food truck festival

Enjoy bites from 14 area food trucks without driving all over the suburbs at “Truckin’ Around — Food Truck Extravaganza.” Nosh from the likes of Babycakes, Beyond Borders, Brand BBQ, Bridgeport Pasty, Calle Wagon, Chicago Cupcake, Chicago Pizza Boss, Gia Via Sweets, La Adelita, Mariani’s Gelato Italiano, Stixx Grille, Tamale Spaceship, Toasty Cheese and Windy City Patty Wagon. Each truck will offer sample and full-sized portions. Kids costume contest at 5 p.m. plus fall-themed games, entertainment and cooking demonstrations.

11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, west parking lot at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium, 1999 Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg.

Dine In Good Taste

Throughout October, more than 150 suburban and Chicago restaurants have joined the In Good Taste effort with proceeds benefiting the Lynn Sage Foundation for breast cancer research. Specials at each location vary. Bakersfield in Westmont, for example, will donate $1 from each dessert ordered in October, while at Tuscany Wheeling, pink ribbons on the menu mean a portion of the proceeds from that dish goes to In Good Taste.

Greek restaurant in Rosemont closes

Less than a year after it opened, My Big Fat Greek Restaurant has closed its doors. Located in the village-owned MB Financial Park, the restaurant opened to slow sales and wasn’t ever able to recover, officials said. A couple of other Greek restaurants have expressed interest in the space, Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens said.

MB Financial Park is at 5501 Park Place, Rosemont.
