Truck loaded with trash rolls over on Route 53, causing major delays
Drivers heading southbound on Route 53 near Euclid Avenue Tuesday morning faced extensive delays after a semitrailer truck loaded with trash overturned, causing lane blockage that lasted more than three hours, according to police.
A spokesman for the Illinois State Police said the accident occurred about 9:22 a.m. when the semi was on the ramp from eastbound Euclid to southbound Route 53 and overturned, he said.
All three southbound lanes remained blocked until about 12:50 p.m., according to police. The cleanup took so long because the 72,000-pound truck was carrying garbage, according to officials.
Police said Palatine firefighters were attending to the driver of the truck.
One other vehicle was involved in the accident, but there are no reports of injuries from that vehicle, police said. No citations have been issued yet.
