Chicago man gets 180 days for $1.2 million pot bust
A Chicago man who was caught growing marijuana in his home after he sold drugs to undercover police officers in Naperville has been sentenced to six months in jail and two years of probation.
Ronald Sanchez, 33, pleaded guilty to producing cannabis and was sentenced by DuPage County Judge Daniel Guerin, according to court records.
Authorities said Sanchez sold pot to undercover officers in Naperville on five separate occasions last year. Afterward, police searched his home on the 3200 block of North Oleander Avenue in Chicago and found an “extensive cannabis grow operation,” according to prosecutors.
Police seized 25 pounds of marijuana and more than 300 mature plants during the raid. Prosecutors said Sanchez admitted drug dealing was his “only source of income.” Police estimated the street value of the marijuana at $1.2 million.
Sanchez pleaded guilty last week in exchange for having more serious charges dismissed. He starts his jail term May 1.
