Annual Westsiders' Party in Lisle

Lisle Lions Club recently held its Annual Westsiders' Party in connection with United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Chicago. This event was started in Lisle by Frank & Connie Garringer for their son, Danny, who had cerebral palsy. When the party grew too large for the Garringer's backyard, Lion Frank asked if the Lisle Lions Club could help.

They did and the club has been producing this annual event since the mid-1980s.

Proof that the party is a main-stay in the Westsiders' social calendar is that quite a number of them have been attending for a number of years.

Arrangements for busing the nearly 45 handicapped individuals to Lisle is arranged by Cheryl Deardorff of Trutter Center. Guests are entertained for the afternoon by the Lions. Two Lisle Teens With Character helped the Lions this year.

Bingo has always been a hit with the Westsiders as they like the prizes they can win. Late in the afternoon, a picnic-style meal is served. It is seen that everyone goes home with a small souvenir for the day.

McDonald's provided ice for the Lions Club to cool down the soda & water. Papa John's supplied twelve pizzas for the meal and Jewel added a decorated sheet cake to the meal purchased there by the Lions.

Lions donate their time and with the help of all the others, it is always a successful event. The club has been arranging this party for over 25 years. The Lions must be doing something right as the guests love it and keep coming back!!

Lisle Lions Club provides eyeglasses for those in the community in need, as well as other humanitarian needs for those less fortunate.
