Naperville Men’s Glee Club marks 25th anniversary
The Naperville Men’s Glee Club will perform popular, spiritual and patriotic songs during its 25th Anniversary Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.
The Naperville group will be joined by the University of Illinois Varsity Men’s Glee Club, which performs under the direction of Barrington Coleman.
The concert will culminate in the two glee clubs collaborating on the world premiere of “Soon One Day,” a new work composed by Michael Sandvik and commissioned with support from the DuPage Community Foundation. The opportunity to come to the stage and conduct “There Is Nothing Like a Dame” will be raffled during the concert.
This concert is the culmination of a year of celebration and recognition of NMGC. One of seven groups selected to participate, the glee club performed in the February 2013 Presidents Day Choral Festival at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., commemorating President John F. Kennedy.
In April, the club produced “NMGC Voices of Hope,” a local chorus of more than 100 volunteer singers who have experienced cancer as a patient or caregiver. The capacity audience at Wentz Concert Hall enthusiastically responded to these unique musicians and songs of inspiration, strength and hope.
Tickets for the 25th Anniversary Concert are available from any glee club member, at (630) 448-0518, online at nmgc.org, or at the door. Prices are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors and students.
