Lake Zurich village board to discuss Lake Michigan as water source
Lake Zurich’s elected officials plan to gather Saturday to discuss Lake Michigan as a possible water source for the village.
Village board members will begin Saturday’s nonvoting session at 8:30 a.m. They’ll meet at village hall, 70 E. Main St. in downtown Lake Zurich.
Lake Zurich officials have been toying with the idea of replacing deep wells by seeking a connection to a Lake Michigan drinking water supply.
Last year, some board members said they wanted to put a referendum question on the ballot asking whether voters would support borrowing $29 million through issuance of construction bonds to lay pipe necessary for lake water. However, the question never made it to the November 2012 ballot. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has granted an allocation of Lake Michigan water to the village. However, solid financial information about what lake water would cost residents and businesses has not been publicly presented.
