Countryside Fire Protection District will host its annual Pancake Breakfast and Open House from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Oct. 6, in its fire station, 600 Deerpath Drive, Vernon Hills.

In addition to having an all-you-can-eat breakfast for $15 per family, there will be several activities and demonstrations, including station tours, sitting in the fire trucks and talking with firefighters. The Illinois and Wisconsin Rescue Dogs will be on-site, and Record a Hit will have an inflatable crawl-through fire truck for the children to practice in.

ChiroOne will be giving free health and spinal checks for anyone interested. Dominick’s Pharmacy will have the Seasonal and H1N1 Combined Flu shot available for $20, New York Life Insurance will be providing identification cards at no charge and Batteries Plus will be giving away free batteries for smoke alarms.

Red Mango has a new location in Vernon Hills and will be offering free smoothies at the open house to promote healthy lifestyles.
