Hearts for Hesed masquerade party fundraiser

The 2013 Hearts for Hesed Masquerade Fundraiser takes place Sunday, October 6, at Meson Sabika in Naperville. The reception includes delicious food, complimentary sangria, live entertainment, cash bar, live and silent auctions, plus a variety of raffle items with proceeds benefiting Hesed House in Aurora.

The event is a labor of love for Judy Phillip, founder of Extra Edge in Naperville. In 2011, Phillip coordinated the inaugural Hearts for Hesed as a culmination of her personal yearlong campaign to raise money and awareness for the homeless shelter.

“After our first event, my relationship with Hesed House grew and so did the constant desire to help them,” said Phillip. “I didn't want to stop what I started; my goal was to keep giving back to this particular charity, keep supporting them because one event isn't going to do it.”

Mary Ensor, Hesed House division director of resources said events like this are important for several reasons.

“The masquerade party provides an opportunity not only for Hesed House's supporters to have an evening of camaraderie to help a great cause, but is also an opportunity for others within the community to learn more about Hesed House,” Ensor said. “We are the state of Illinois' largest homeless shelter outside Chicago, providing emergency shelter, food and life changing services to help individuals out of homelessness.”

Phillip said the evening will be inspiring, educational and entertaining, all while helping a good cause. Proceeds from the event will benefit men, women and specifically the children at Hesed House.

“One of the drives behind this is that Hesed House is getting more and more families into their shelter,” said Phillip. “We are specifically designating proceeds of this for the children's area and the children's needs.”

Hesed House is a national model for ending homelessness – one person, one family at a time. It is the culmination of nearly three decades of strategic evolution from a formerly acceptable model of "eats and sheets" to a Comprehensive Homeless Resource Center – a campus of centralized highly skilled professionals collaborating to provide the tools necessary to help individuals and families break free of the shackles binding them to homelessness.
