Schaumburg company ranks the 6th best workplace in U.S.

Assurance, an independent insurance brokerage, was named by Great Place to Work® as one of the best medium sized workplaces in the United States on the annual 2013 Best Small & Medium Workplaces list. The list is published in FORTUNE magazine, which hits newsstands on Sept. 23. Ranked 6th in the nation, Assurance was recognized for its exceptional workplace culture.

Last year, Assurance was named 17th in the small (50-250 employees) category. In one year, Assurance jumped to the next size category – medium (251-999 employees) – and placed 6th in the United States.

“There’s no doubt we recognize our employees as the bona fide stars of the company,” said Tony Chimino, chief executive officer of Assurance. “We have an internal culture centered on happiness, education, wellness and social responsibility. We couldn’t be more pleased to receive this honor, especially because it’s centered on the trust-based workplace culture we strive to maintain. This award is a culmination of our employees’ dedication to improving our business platform and culture, as well as bringing value to our clients.”

Assurance was selected among hundreds of companies vying for a place on the list. The selection process includes an employee survey and an in-depth questionnaire about programs and company practices. Great Place to Work then evaluates each application using its unique methodology based on five dimensions: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

“These (highly ranked) companies demonstrate that being an excellent employer leads to business success,” said Robert Levering, CEO and co-founder of Great Place to Work. “While these companies may be relatively small in headcount, many of them provide services to some of the country’s largest and most notable organizations, suggesting that success has not so much to do with size as with the quality of service and experience a company provides. A great workplace, full of great employees, is better equipped to achieve that success.”

Great Place to Work writes: “Employees can join committees for everything ranging from charity work to wellness and office space initiatives, and anyone can receive $5 for each suggestion they submit to the company, with no limit on how many can be submitted. Assurance takes care to support its employees as people, with 35 days paid time off after one year of employment, a $10,000 adoption benefit and up to $5,250 in tuition reimbursement.”

Assurance has experienced an average organic growth rate of 14 percent over the last 10 years. More than 90 percent of Assurance’s staff say that not only is Assurance a fun place to work, but managers have a clear vision for the organization’s future.
