Volunteers building playground at St. Norbert School

Volunteers will build a new playground Saturday, Sept. 21, at St. Norbert School, 1817 Walters Ave., Northbrook, in honor of Kyle Caraher, a 17-year-old varsity football player who lost his life in a car accident in the summer of 2012.

“I’m very touched by the warmth of the community. It doesn’t replace the pain of losing Kyle, but it’s such an incredible memorial,” said his mom, Karen Caraher, of the playground, which will be dedicated at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.

The equipment was donated by Playworld Systems, after the school was one of two winners in a nationwide contest earlier this year, where people voted online to pick their favorite project.

“To honor the memory of Kyle and his childlike charm, the Caraher family founded Kyle’s Dreaming Tree. The project is raising funds to build a new playground where Kyle attended elementary school,” Stacy Seiden wrote in the essay nominating St. Norbert.
