Virtual reference comes to West Chicago Public Library

The West Chicago Public Library District is continuing to expand its digital footprint to patrons' mobile phones, tablets, and PCs with its new “Mosio” service. Formerly referred to as “Text a Librarian,” Mosio expands this service across multiple channels to provide patron support online or on-the-go.

According to recent research, text messaging is the most widely used form of mobile communication in the world. Americans are now texting more than twice as much as they are talking on their cell phones. Now, West Chicago's librarians will be able to respond efficiently to text messages, web chats, or emails through a single, web-based dashboard.

“It is increasingly important to meet patrons' expectations with regard to accessing library resources with mobile devices,” says Benjamin Weseloh, Adult Services Manager. “Providing our patrons access to reference service in a mobile environment allows us to serve them at their point of need, no matter where they are.”

“In keeping with our Strategic Plan, we continue to explore new ways that we can engage patrons throughout the community,” adds Administrative Librarian Melody E. Coleman. “This new Mosio service will improve communications, engagement, and relationships with our patrons.”

Patrons will find Mosio on the Library's main web page. Just look for the red tab labeled, “Ask a Question” on the far right side of the screen. If you would like more information about the new Mosio service, feel free to make an appointment to bring in your device for a demonstration by contacting Adult Services at (630) 231-1552 x4.
