Salvation Army golfers raise almost $200,000 for kids programs
The Salvation Army held its 10th annual “Hope Fore Kids” Golf Classic at The Glen Club, 2901 W. Lake Ave., in Glenview, on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The event attracted 128 golfers from Chicagoland’s business and philanthropic communities and raised nearly $200,000 toward The Salvation Army’s youth programs, which include child care, before-school and after-school programs, art, music and educational instruction, emergency shelter, character-building programs and other recreational activities.
The tournament included a full day of leisure activities.
Beginning with a golf clinic hosted by professional golfers, followed by lunch and golf with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., the tournament also featured a variety of contests and prizes. The event culminated in an evening beverage reception and dinner that included a live auction and awards program.
This year’s event was presented by Bandon Dunes and KemperSports.
Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. From each dollar raised, 82 cents goes to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide.
