Weed Ladies floral designers celebrate 44th year supporting Naper Settlement

When purchasing a floral arrangement during the Weed Ladies Fall Show and Sale, customers are not only beautifying their home or office, but they also are supporting the preservation and education efforts of the Naperville Heritage Society, administrator of Naper Settlement. The Weed Ladies’ fall sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 5-7 and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 in the historic Daniels House at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Admission to the sale is free.

The Weed Ladies fall sale has been an annual tradition since 1969 when these talented volunteers originally sold their arrangements at the Heritage Society’s annual Antiques Show. Their charming Country Store was the hit of the show and people thronged to purchase one-of-a-kind florals nestled in unique antique and collectible containers. Eventually, the Weed Ladies found a permanent home in the Daniels House at Naper Settlement, which now houses their workshop and showroom. Adjacent to the workshop is their garden, where they grow flowers and accent greens that are then dried and used in their floral displays. The charming dried flower bouquets are available only during the fall sale.

“The Weed Ladies now design with silks as well as drieds in more contemporary containers and baskets to keep up with design trends and home décor,” said Lynn Rogala, co-chair of the Weed Ladies. “Custom arrangements can be done in your container or ours.”

There are close to 20 Weed Ladies who gather together twice a week from February-November at the Daniels House to create the floral arrangements they sell at their spring, fall and winter sales and at special events throughout the year. Purchases also can be made on days that they are designing.
