Radford Green Welcomes New Director of Nursing

Radford Green at Sedgebrook Health Care and Rehabilitation in Lincolnshire, IL, is pleased to welcome Joni Mantelman as the new director of nursing.

Mantelman is equally enthusiastic. “This is a pivotal time in elder care,” she said. “The demands of the healthcare system are greater than ever, and it’s very exciting to be at a place that has made the transition successfully and allows nursing to be all it can and should be.”

Mantelman began nursing school in 2005 and obtained her license in 2008, leaving behind an environmental consulting business to work in hospitals and a dementia care facility. Before joining the Radford Green staff on July 15, 2013, Mantelman was director of nursing at St. Matthew Center for Health in Park Ridge. “Nursing is my second career,” she said, noting that while her business training has been an asset to her nursing skills, that’s only part of it. “You can’t train someone to be compassionate or engaged in others’ lives. You have to have a knack for it. Quality care is about building relationships.”

In just over a month of employment, Mantelman feels right at home at Radford Green. “It’s all here. From the physical unit—the beautiful surroundings and accessibility of the nursing stations—to the multiple activities and amenities for residents, to management and administration’s dedication to quality, personalized care. Even as an employee, you feel like you’re special here,” she said.
