Line it up: Streamwood Falcons 83 runs to 20-2 road win

Streamwood Falcons 83 used strong work by its offensive and defensive lines to push the team to a 20-2 win at Lake Zurich on Saturday.

Falcons 83, Streamwood's first-year tackle team, and the Flames played a quick scoreless first quarter dominated by defense. Lake Zurich drove into Falcons' territory midway through the second quarter before Elijah Earl made a solid stop on fourth down to give Streamwood the ball back.

Two plays later, Ayden Avina took the reverse handoff around the left side 65 yards for the touchdown. Anthony Tovar rushed for the point after to give the Falcons a 7-0 lead. Before the half, Lake Zurich again moved into Streamwood's end of the field before Noah Taritas stuffed the Flames on the first half's final play.

The second half opened with back-to-back plays that highlighted lines on both sides of the ball. The offensive front of Taritas, Avant Winters, Kyle Faro, Joey Kidd, Isaiah Gomez, Taro Ishikawa and David Petreikis made several key block of the third quarter's opening play to spring Ryne Campana for a 55-yard touchdown run. Brett Phillips added the extra point to make it 14-0.

On Lake Zurich's first play after the touchdown, Alex Calo burst through the line to sack the Flames' quarterback and force a fumble, which was recovered by Nick Durante at Lake Zurich's 38 yard line.

Streamwood's drive after the turnover included a power run by Phillips through the lane cleared by the offensive line for a 15-yard gain before Avina scored on a 21-yard run to give the Falcons a 20-0 lead.

The Streamwood defensive line – which rotates Calo, Ishikawa, Kidd, Durante, Petreikis, Taritas, Jose Martinez, Ricky Delgado, Giovanny Garcia, Zack Meade and Carlos Avila – once again stayed tough to keep Lake Zurich out of the end zone after the Flames made it inside the Falcons' five-yard-line with less than two minutes to play.

“Our lines did it all today. We got a great push on both sides, and the defense came up with a big turnover,” Falcons 83 Head Coach Regan Earl said. “On offense, we tell the kids all the time you can't run the ball without good blocking.”

Streamwood (2-0) stays on the road this week as the Falcons travel to Mount Prospect before back-to-back home games.
