One injured in Addison fire
Firefighters spent hours on the scene of an Addison fire that injured one person Wednesday afternoon. Battalion Chief Roy Charvat of the Addison Fire Protection District said crews responded to reports of a fire at 1045 Westgate St. around 4:30 p.m. The fire occurred in a multiunit industrial building that houses a company that does some welding, Charvat said. Police searching for missing Zion baby
Zion police and other emergency service personnel are searching for a baby boy who went missing Wednesday morning, according to a news release. The 5-month-old was reported missing from an apartment on the 2300 block of Galilee Avenue around 8 a.m. A caller indicated the “unknown persons” had abducted the boy, according to police. Wooden roller coaster plan rolls on in Gurnee
An advisory panel in Gurnee has given its support to a wooden roller coaster proposed for Six Flags Great America. If built, the ride would be in the theme park’s County Fair area where the Iron Wolf roller coaster once stood. The advisory board voted 5-0 in favor of granting special permission for Great America to build the coaster with a maximum height of 165 feet. Full story.
Hire back Clifford at Metra, attorney says
If Metra wants to end controversy over a lavish up-to-$718,000 separation agreement with former CEO Alex Clifford, they should just hire him back, the executive’s lawyer said Wednesday. The news comes as Metra leaders said they’ll consider rescinding the financial settlement with Clifford, although it could mean a legal fight. Full story.
Protesters greet Roskam during Naperville visit
Congressman Peter Roskam came to Naperville Wednesday to meet with chamber of commerce members about reforming the country’s tax code. But outside the doors of Cress Creek Country Club more than a dozen protesters greeted him, expressing their anger with both his continued opposition to the Affordable Care Act and his refusal to support the Senate immigration bill. New performing arts center, expanded library dedicated at Carmel High School
Prayers were recited and holy water was sprinkled Wednesday at the official dedication of new performing arts and library facilities at Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein. Ground was broken in June 2012 for the Fine and Performing Arts Center and Information Commons that were years in the making. The $6.2 million project was funded by the Carmel at the Threshold Capital Campaign. Full story.

No new sentence for Aurora woman who killed couple
A judge Wednesday rejected a move by an Aurora woman — who had marijuana in her system when she caused a May 2009 crash that killed two St. Charles motorcyclists — to withdraw a previous guilty plea. The attorney for Alia Bernard, 29, who is serving a six-year sentence for the deaths of Wade and Denise Thomas, argued that her right to a speedy trial was violated. Full story.
