D128 Community Education News

It has been a busy summer for District 128's Community Education staff. Our office was relocated to the District's Administration Center at 50 Lakeview Parkway, Suite 101, Vernon Hills. We have a lovely new space that will give easier access for those who prefer to register in person.

In addition to the move, the Community Education office has released their fall 2013 catalog. Catalogs have been mailed to residents in Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mettawa, Mundelein, and Vernon Hills. “Our program is a great resource for the community,” reported Program Director Diane Phillips. If you would like to increase your computer knowledge or learn about the new technology gadgets, explore new languages, learn new cooking or gardening skills, or try new art techniques; our instructors will get you on your way. We also provide a number of safety courses, including CPR/AED training, Dormitory Fire Safety, Fire Behavior and Fire Extinguisher Training, and First Aid. Our financial class instructors provide an excellent knowledge base to help you with your important decisions when applying for mortgages, buying new real estate, or planning for retirement. Check out the dance and health and fitness sections for classes that will get you moving. There are some fun classes listed in our special interest section that include: bridge, Chanukah 101, interviewing, organizing your closet/wardrobe, cleaning green, exploring Italy, public speaking, and wine.

We've partnered with District 214's CET Program to provide travel opportunities for our residents. CET provides wonderful day trips and long distance travel opportunities all over the world.

In addition to our in-house courses, we also offer over 300 online classes through Ed2Go. You can access these courses on your computer from any location at any time.

If you enjoy fine music entertainment, the North Suburban Wind Ensemble will perform concerts on November 17 and December 15.

Registration is in progress, and a complete listing of classes is available on our website at www.ComEd128.org. Questions can be directed to our office at 847-247-4575 or 847-247-4576.
