A success story for housing for disabled
The Aug. 8 Daily Herald editorial highlighted a number of Northwest suburbs that rejected supportive living housing projects for the mentally disabled. As the editorial accurately pointed out, there is a desperate need in these suburbs for housing for the mentally disabled. However, there is a success story in our area that deserves highlighting. The village of Mount Prospect is to be commended for not only supporting a housing project in the community, but approving it with a unanimous vote of the village board.
Today, Myers Place, at the corner of Busse, Dempster and Algonquin roads, is a magnificent new building with 39 apartments for those living with mental illness. It is an attractive building that fits seamlessly in to the surrounding community. Services for residents will be provided by the Kenneth Young Center of Elk Grove Village, a highly respected local agency.
Myers Place is a model for the Northwest suburbs. Mount Prospect has truly lived up to its motto, “Where friendliness is a way of life”.
