Appointment politics were shameful

Wauconda residents got to witness an incredibly selfish and arrogant display of childishness this week, courtesy of Mayor Frank Bart.

Bart scheduled a “special village board meeting” to be held following a closed session at the end of the regularly scheduled committee of the whole meeting, ostensibly to vote on his appointments — including the appointment of a new police chief. He had previously said he would call for the vote “if I have the votes.”

After more than two hours of closed session — while over 75 people waited — he came out and convened the “special” meeting, and almost as quickly adjourned it, then blamed the board. But he had to know that he was never going to have the votes he needed to approve the appointment; opposition to his effort to dump the current chief is widespread and vocal.

Instead, he decided to waste the time of all concerned for nothing more than posturing and intimidation. Shameful.
