District 93 picks new school board member

A new school board member has been appointed in Carol Stream Elementary District 93 to fill a vacancy resulting from a resignation.

Sonal Amin, who fell short in April’s crowded six-way race for the school board, was selected by the board to replace Christopher Wagoner, who has moved out of the district and was forced to step down.

“He knew that might be a possibility shortly after he was elected,” said Ryan McPherrin, the district’s spokesman. “He let the board know that was a possibility. They looked at the election results and eventually spoke with Sonal and she accepted the appointment.”

Wagoner finished fourth in the election for four available seats. The fifth-place finisher, James Varey, had dropped out of the race because he was also moving out of the district.

That left Amin, a Hanover Park resident who volunteers at her children’s schools and said during the campaign that she wanted to become more involved in the district.

Even though Wagoner was elected to a four-year term, Amin will only serve through April 2015, per state election law. At that time she could decide to run for election.

District 93 includes portions of Carol Stream, Bloomingdale and Hanover Park and has six elementary schools and two middle schools.
