Authorities identify body of man found in Fox River
The body of a man who police say apparently drowned Tuesday afternoon in the Fox River in Aurora has been identified.
Bruce J. Grissette, 38, of the 500 block of College Avenue in Aurora, was identified by authorities, police said Wednesday.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Kane County coroner’s office, but an official cause of death has not been determined pending results of a toxicology report, according to Coroner Rob Russell.
A person riding a bike over the Galena Boulevard Bridge in downtown Aurora called 911 just after 2 p.m. Tuesday to report seeing what was believed to be a human body under the dam between Galena and New York Street, according to a news release.
A dive team from the Aurora Fire Department recovered the body of the victim just south of the dam about 40 feet from the east bank of the river, authorities said.
Grissette was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:27 p.m. There were no outward signs of trauma to the body, police said.
It’s unknown how or when the man entered the river.
