Fremont Public Library Opens "Apple Stand"

Fremont Public Library recently purchased five Apple iPads for parents to use with children ages 2 – 8 in the Youth Services Dept. There are three tablets mounted on the department's “Apple Stand,” and two more that may be checked out for use only in the department.

The tablets include librarian-approved educational apps that support the early literacy skills of talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. Families that already have an iPad are welcome to test the library apps before buying them. Families that don't have an iPad are invited to try one and take advantage of the library's newest learning tool.

Youth Services librarians note that “early literacy” does not mean reading. Rather, it is the foundation that assists in the transition to reading in kindergarten and first grade.

Fremont Public Library is located at 1170 N. Midlothian Rd., Mundelein. For more information, call 847-918-3218.
