U-46 Schools to Host Health Clinics for Back to School Physicals & Immunizations

ELGIN – School District U-46 and the Greater Elgin Family Care Center are offering a series of Health Clinics in August for children to receive their back to school physical and immunizations. The U-46 Health Services Department encourages parents to ensure all health requirements are met, including a new state requirement that sixth through twelfth grade students can provide proof of receiving one dose of the Tdap vaccine, regardless of when the last DPT, TD, DtaP or DT was given. The Tdap vaccine guards against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough.

“We are grateful for the support of the Greater Elgin Family Care Center in bringing immunization services into our schools so they are easy to access for U-46 families,” said Superintendent José M. Torres. “It's especially important this year that parents are aware of the new state requirement for sixth through twelfth grade students to receive the Tdap vaccine. We are committed to making the health requirements cost-effective and easily-accessible so that our students come to school healthy and we combat against the spread of disease across our more than 50 schools.”
