Schaumburg man critical after crash

Schaumburg police said the 75-year-old driver of a car that crashed Saturday morning is in critical condition at an area hospital.

Schaumburg Police Sgt. John Nebl said the unidentified Schaumburg man lost control of his vehicle while driving west on Algonquin shortly before 9:30 a.m. Saturday and clipped a curb, vaulting his vehicle into some trees in the intersection’s parkway.

While the car landed upright, the man still needed to be extricated by emergency workers, Nebl said.

It’s unknown what caused the man to lose control of his car, Nebl said. It’s also unknown if the man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. It’s also unclear if his medical condition is a result of the crash or a medical emergency that precipitated the crash.

The man was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Nebl added.

The intersection was closed for roughly two hours as police investigated the crash. No citations have been issued yet. The crash remains under investigation, Nebl said.
