The heat is on at Kane County Fair
Day 2 at the Kane County Fair was even hotter than Wednesday's opening day, not that a few degrees make that much difference once the thermometer heads north of 90 degrees.
According to AccuWeather, more hot weather in the 90s is in store for Friday, before evening storms cool things off a bit for a sunny weekend at the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles.
Thursday was another day for the animals, with dairy, swine, horse and pony judging in the morning. Beef judging takes place starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
The fair is open noon to midnight Friday and Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $8 Friday through Sunday, and children younger than 5 are free. Bring a can of food and get $1 off admission, and two cans are the limit.
Friday highlights include Professional Championship Bull Riders at 7:30 p.m. at the Grandstand. There's a $12 charge to get in. Bull riding will also be featured at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Bob Sauber, promoter of the event, said about 70 of some of the best riders and 45 to 50 of some of the best bulls from across the country will compete. About 30 cowgirls will come from across the country to participate in the barrel racing competition. They race around three barrels on horses, competing for the best time.
