Boomers head into break with loss
Host Schaumburg collected 7 hits, the 15th time in the last 18 games the Boomers have had at least that many, but they still dropped a 5-3 decision to the Traverse City Beach Bums in the finale of a three-game series Sunday at Boomers Stadium.
The Boomers head into the Frontier League all-star break with a 30-22 record.
The Beach Bums’ Jose Vargas belted a 2-run homer in the first inning, but the Boomers’ Brian McConkey led off the second with his third homer and Frank Pfister doubled home a run in the third to forge a 2-2 tie.
The Beach Bums posted single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh en route to the victory.
Boomers starter Seth Webster suffered the loss in his second professional outing, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings.
Gerard Hall and Pfister each had 2 hits.
Five Boomers were selected to participate in the All-Star Game, including Steve McQuail — who will compete in the league’s home run derby Tuesday.
The Boomers resume play Friday at Washington.
