Wheeling High teacher nominated for Music Educator Award

Brian Logan, director of bands and fine arts coordinator at Wheeling High School, has been selected as a quarterfinalist for the first-ever Music Educator Award, presented by The Recording Academy and the Grammy Foundation.

There were 30,000 nominations, 217 music teachers from 195 cities across 45 states named quarterfinalists. Nominated teachers were notified and invited to fill out an application. Semifinalists will be announced in August.

This winner will be presented at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony and Nominees Reception during Grammy Week in 2014.

“Our band program, under the direction of Brian Logan, sets the bar for every other success at our school,” said Wheeling Principal Lazaro Lopez.

“Brian has heart, passion, and a belief in our students that is simply empowering. The breath and depth of the quality of music our students perform because of his teaching is second to none. He may be a quarterfinalist, but our community of students has already won.”

Logan said he was fortunate to work at Wheeling High School, which he described as a special place.

“Our kids and parents don’t feel or act entitled to anything. They work (hard) every day and have a great time along the way. Wheeling High School is a very special place to teach.”
