Mount Prospect Lions Club supports Canine Companions for Independence
The Mount Prospect Lions Club hosted trainer Jane Barber and her puppy Lyle from Canine Companions for Independence during a recent program meeting.
Barber spoke to Lions Club members and guests about her role as a puppy trainer, explaining the intense training the dogs go through to become companions for children and adults with various disabilities.
The Lions Project for Canine Companions for Independence, a Lions Foundation, was formed in 1983 as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization to spread awareness and promote support for the CCI group, which formed in 1975.
The goal of LPCCI is to reach all of the Lions Clubs throughout the United States to make them aware of Canine for Companions and support this very worthwhile organization.
Also present at the meeting was John Sherkey, with his dog Cavan, and John’s parents, Kelly and John Sherkey. Through help from the Mount Prospect Lions Club and LPCCI, Cavan was given to John last year.
