Northbound Route 53 closed near Higgins Road

All four lanes of Route 53 northbound near Higgins Road are closed as emergency crews clean up from an earlier truck fire, officials said.

Illinois State Police responded to a truck fire around 10:05 a.m., which took about 25 minutes to extinguish, police said.

As of 10:35 a.m., cars were starting to get through on the right shoulder, but the four lanes northbound lanes remained closed for cleanup.

Police did not have any information about what caused the fire. The truck was the only vehicle involved in the fire.
