Police: Elgin man ‘brutally’ stabbed woman, her boyfriend

A Crystal Lake woman and her boyfriend were brutally stabbed early Tuesday morning and police say they’re searching for an Elgin man believed to be an ex-boyfriend of the female victim.

The two victims were able to call police to the home on the 1500 block of Isle Royal Circle at about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday after authorities say someone broke into the home while they were sleeping and stabbed them multiple times.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Jimmy Bell Jr., 30, of Elgin on two counts of attempted murder, said police, who believe a domestic situation led to the attack.

“Bell was a past boyfriend of the female victim in the home,” said Crystal Lake Cmdr. Dan Dziewior. “Our understanding is that their relationship had ended in the fall of 2012.”

The 28-year-old woman was transported by ambulance while her 23-year-old boyfriend was taken by helicopter. Both remain in critical condition. Their locations are being withheld while the suspect remains at large, police said.

Bell is described as a black male, 5 foot 3 inches and 180 pounds.

He may be driving a red Honda Accord with the license plates 5566117 and may be en route to Indiana or Georgia, police said.

“We have reason to believe he left this area immediately following the attack, but we don’t know if that’s still the case,” Dziewior said. “We’re obviously seeking information abut his whereabouts.”

Police say Bell should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached by anyone other than law enforcement officials.

“I can’t underscore enough that he should not be confronted,” Dziewior said. “The extent of the injuries that these folks have are brutal. These folks are very lucky to be alive.”

Anyone with information about the investigation or the whereabouts of Bell can call the Crystal Lake Police Department’s Investigations division at (815) 356-3630; or the hotline established for this investigation, (815) 444-5960; or by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 762-7867.
