Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania

Lake Park Memorial Pavilion was transformed into an outdoor movie theatre on Friday, June 28, as hundreds of ghouls, boys and their families gathered to watch the 2012 animated, family comedy, Hotel Transylvania. The movie tells the story of Dracula, the owner of Hotel Transylvania, who invites his friends, including Frankenstein's monster, the Mummy, a Werewolf family, and the Invisible Man, to celebrate the 18th birthday of his daughter, Mavis. Families were also treated to a surprise visit from the Des Plaines Fire Department's Engine 62. Firemen and EMT's answered questions about fire safety and gave kids a chance to take a look at the equipment and walk through the rig.

The free Friday Night Movie in the Park series is sponsored by the Des Plaines Optimist Club, a 58 year old service club, that partners with the Des Plaines Park District for family friendly activities and events including a fishing derby, a kite fly, the annual Christmas tree lot, as well as the Movies in the Park. Celebrate Christmas in July at the next screening, Elf, on July 12. Elf is the story of one of Santa's elves who spreads Christmas cheer in a world of cynics. Popcorn, freeze pops, snacks, and soda will be available for purchase before the movie. Families are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic in the park before the show.
