Glenview man denies violating weapons export ban

A Taiwanese businessman’s son has pleaded not guilty to charges he sought to help bypass a U.S. ban on the export of weapons machinery to North Korea.

Yueh-Hsun Tsai pleaded not guilty Tuesday at federal court hearing in Chicago.

The 36-year-old Glenview man and his father are both charged with conspiracy to defraud U.S. laws on the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and two other related charges.

The younger Tsai was arrested at his home last month.

His father, Hsien Tai Tsai, was arrested while visiting Estonia. The Baltic Sea-coast nation worked with the U.S. in capturing the 67-year-old. He’s expected to be extradited to Chicago within several months.

If convicted, both men could face a maximum of 45 years in federal prison.
