Submitted by Algonquin Lions

The Algonquin Lions Club recently presented Aubrey Cornwell of Algonquin with the 2013 Lion Ted Spella Education Award.

A recent graduate from Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville, she received $2,500 from the Algonquin Lions for achieving academic excellence.

John Spella also attended the award presentation, which honors his father, who was president of the Algonquin Lions and president of the Algonquin Village Board. Ted died in 2002 at age 72.

Aubrey will attend Ohio State University in the fall, where she will major in broadcasting or advertising. Aubrey also received $1,000 from Barb and John Weiler of Buffalo Wild Wings.

The Algonquin Lions sponsor a charity bean bag tournament hosted by Algonquin’s Buffalo Wild Wings. The charity bean bag tournament benefits the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry and the Algonquin Lion Ted Spella Education Award.

This year’s charity bean bag tournament will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Buffalo Wild Wings in Algonquin.
