Gun violence prevention groups from the Chicago area will be holding a vigil in Palatine Friday to commemorate the six-month anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. The event takes place at 7 p.m. at the Palatine Metra Station, 137 W. Wood St.

Attendees will read the names and honor the memories of those killed in the Dec. 14, 2012 shooting at the Connecticut school and they also will acknowledge the approximately 4,800 additional Americans murdered since.
