Island Lake July 4 events:

Personnel changes at Island Lake’s village hall won’t mean the demise of the town’s Independence Day celebration after all. A parade has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 4. It will run on Burnett Road from Darrell Road to just east of River Road. A free community picnic will begin at noon at Veterans Memorial Park, Route 176 at Lakeview Drive. Music, pony rides, games and more are planned. The events hadn’t been scheduled earlier because a new mayor, a new clerk and three new trustees took office in May — and the outgoing officials didn’t plan the event before they left.
