Main Street Opera Announces Music Scholarship Recipient

Main Street Opera (MSO) awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a local high school musician at a reception Monday night. The scholarship is intended to help a young musician further his or her pursuit of a degree in music.

Receiving the 2013 award was Jeffrey Nejdl, a senior at Prospect High School who plays trombone. He will attend Harper College this fall and major in music education.

Along with being able to demonstrate financial need, Nejdl was selected based on his response to the essay topic, “Why music is important in our society.”

“It was an honor to award Jeff MSO's inaugural scholarship,” said Katherine Bergman, MSO president. “I congratulate him on his high school graduation. Main Street Opera is pleased to be able to support him in his future musical pursuits.”

Competition judges included three music professionals from the area.

Main Street Opera is a not-for-profit organization that raises money for its scholarship program through local charitable donations.

MSO is pleased to continue its collaboration with local schools, including a three-year partnership with District 214 Community Education.
