Otters top Boomers 9-3

The Evansville Otters amassed 17 hits on the way to a 9-3 win over the Schaumburg Boomers at Boomers Stadium on Friday night.

Evansville took advantage of 6 walks from Schaumburg starter Mike Giovenco, two of which came around in the form of runs. Giovenco suffered the loss after allowing 4 runs in 5 innings.

Trailing 4-0 after allowing a second inning run and 3 in the fourth, the Boomers pushed across a pair of runs in the fifth on a Steve McQuail double and a Bobby Martin sacrifice fly to pull within 4-2. Evansville responded by scoring in every inning the rest of the way to post the win.

The Boomers collected 11 hits in the losing effort. Frank Pfister went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored. Craig Hertler added 3 hits and McQuail posted a pair of doubles.

The series will continue Saturday at 6 p.m. when Chris Phelan (1-0, 1.93) will make a spot start opposite Ryan Zamorsky (1-0, 0.00). The world’s largest marshmallow fight will be part of the fun on Saturday night.
