Vernon Hills tobacco checks:

A third and final round of underage tobacco checks of 15 license holders yielded no violations, Vernon Hills police recently reported. In each situation, a minor attempted to purchase tobacco products under the supervision of a police officer to determine compliance with Illinois law and local ordinances pertaining to the sale of tobacco to minors. None of the 15 establishments that were checked last month were found to be in violation, police said. The checks were made in conjunction with a grant from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission, and the department will receive a new grant of $1,760 to continue educational and enforcement efforts. Between now and May 31, 2014, the department will conduct three “checks” at every village tobacco licensee. Licensees receive an educational letter from the department advising them of the upcoming enforcement plans and applicable law.
