Fox Lake man pleads guilty in child porn case

A 75-year-old Fox Lake man has pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of child pornography charges, authorities said Thursday.

Carl A. Sand Jr., of the 0-100 block of Rand Avenue, was sentenced to 30 months’ probation and 200 hours of public service.

Sand also has to pay a $500 fine to the Child Advocacy Center, he must turn over all of his computers and electronic equipment, and he has to register as a sex offender.

Sand was arrested in February after a computer repair company notified Fox Lake police about suspicious files on a customer’s computer, according to a news release from the police department.

Sand had special equipment designed to hide his online activities, police said.

He pleaded guilty in Lake County circuit court on May 24.
