West Chicago Music Boosters to swing at Spring Fling

There will be some jumpin’, jivin’ and possibly wailin’ Friday in West Chicago.

That’s when the Music Boosters of West Chicago Community High School will sponsor the annual Spring Fling, which runs from 7 to 10 p.m. at the high school, 326 Joliet St. Visitors should use Entrance F on the east side of the building.

A 1940s swing dance club and jazz concert will be re-created in the historic, 87-year-old Weyrauch Auditorium at the school, which was built in 1926.

“It’s great to see the kids actually dance to our band,” says Sue Stibal, music booster member. “Being set on our vintage auditorium stage, where dances really were once held, it’s like we are re-creating a bit of our school’s past.”

Instructors will be teaching swing dance moves from 7 to 8 p.m. Later from 8 to 9 p.m., the West Chicago Community High School Jazz Band and Chamber Choir will perform, along with more dancing. From 9 to 10 p.m. there will be more music and dancing.

Tickets are $5 at the door. Refreshments will be served, and a 50/50 raffle will be offered. Proceeds will support music scholarships and the purchase of new stereo equipment.

For details, contact Sue Stibal at srstibal@gmail.com or (630) 341-2500; or Steve Govertsen, director of instrumental music, at sgovertsen@d94.org or (630) 876-6490.
