Palatine Healthy Living’s 5K attracts 200

Palatine Park District hosted the second annual Healthy Living event which included an exhibitor expo with 20 health booths, a 5K run, and a 12-mile bike ride.

The bike ride was presented in cooperation with the Bike Palatine Club, and the 5K run had five gold level sponsors including: Alexian Brothers Health System, Daily Herald Media Group, Palatine Vision Center, Peapod and Premier Credit Union.

Over 200 participants ran or walked the Healthy Living 5K this year with participants ranging in age from 6 years old through 83 years old. The top three overall finishers were: Male: First place, Brian Lane (20:57.40); second place, Scott Starcevich (21:23.68); third place, Jim Ritter (21:31.03). Female: First place, Andrea Rohrbacher (21:51.93); second place, Haley Skisak (23:04.29); and third place, Eileen Skisak (23:07.23).

During the expo, participants could win a free raffle entry by visiting all of the exhibitor booths. Congratulations to the following prize winners: Fitness Flex Plan, Ron Miller; OGO Golf Certificate, Prakash Saunshi; iTunes gift card, Stacey Mau; six one-day pool passes, Haleigh Grewe; Fitness Center membership, Indira Ramesh; yoga mat, Felicity Gorham; three buckets at the PHGC Driving Range, Carol Gerber; six one-day pool passes, Romil Havewala; lunch kit, Jens Engelbrechtsen; and dog basket from Bentley’s Corner Barkery, Amy Beschta.

Palatine Park District’s next race is the annual Feet Fest 3K Family Fun Run. This event is presented as part of Palatine’s Street Fest summer celebration and will be held on Aug. 25. Applications will be available in June.
