Police: Elgin man fired shots outside Schaumburg club

A 21-year-old Elgin man faces multiple felony charges alleging he fired a gun during a large fight in the parking lot of a Schaumburg nightclub early Saturday morning.

Jamal Cook, of the 600 block of South Liberty Street, is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, felony aggravated unlawful use of weapon and having no firearm owner’s ID card.

Schaumburg police quickly arrested Cook after officers responded to a call of a fight in the parking lot of The Snuggery, 1540 N. Roselle Road, at 2:19 a.m. Saturday.

Officers learned that one person had removed a handgun from a car and fired two shots without striking anyone.

Though the shooter had left the scene, a description of a him and and his vehicle was broadcast and a Schaumburg patrol officer spotted a matching vehicle on Golf Road nearby and made a traffic stop, police said.

Cook was arrested without incident and a gun recovered, according to police.

“This case is yet another example of the great work being done quietly and professionally everyday by the officers of the Schaumburg Police Department,” interim Police Chief Ken Bouche said in a statement released Monday.

Cook’s bail was set Sunday at $150,000, and he remains at the Cook County jail. His next court date is Tuesday in Rolling Meadows.
