Neuqua Valley wins tourney opener

Carly Cervantez crushed a three-run home run and Neuqua Valley beat Willoughby (Ohio) 8-3 on Friday at the Wendy’s Classic in Ashfield, Ohio. Jamie O’Brien went 2-for-3 with a double and struck out six in three innings of relief, Madison Bartlett had a two-run single and Alyssa Domico was 3-for-3. Winning pitcher Mac Spittal (4-0) struck out four in four innings for Neuqua (7-5). In other action in Ohio, Elyria beat Bartlett 10-2. Lake Park’s game was rained out.
